About the relationship

We’ve been working with Bibliotheca for nearly 15 years, beginning with the development of a bespoke self-service library kiosk – the first of its kind in the sector. Over the subsequent 13 years, we have added 14 market leading products which include book checkout, RIFD self service points, smartlockers, security gates and more. We remain Bibliotheca’s first choice for new product development and collaborate closely at every stage.

Bibliotheca’s best-selling SS1000 is a modular product with desktop and height adjustable options, capable of integrating over 40 components in multiple configurations – offering self-service kiosk functionality along with payment, barcode scanning and printing.

RFID PIONEERS

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is now in use in a range of sectors, but library services were early adopters, with Bibliotheca having used tags and scanners for the past 20 years. RFID in libraries helps to prevent accidental removal of books and other items and deter theft without the use for solid barriers or security checks.

The same RFID tags and scanning technology can be used to check books or assets in and out as well as provide book details and shelving information. 

The RFID tag contains a microchip which is programmed with information and then affixed to books or materials. Tags are used together with RFID readers, which can read multiple tags simultaneously at near-proximity. This means that any part of the book can be scanned rather than locating a barcode or ticket, saving time and increasing accuracy.
